Now that you have learned about the effects of ocean acidification, the evil twin to global warming, are you concerned that enough is not being done to combat this harmful problem? If so, sign the pledge below indicating your commitment to educating others about ocean acidfication, reducing CO2 emissions, and raising awareness.
Sign the Pledge
“I pledge my name in support of protecting our ocean. I pledge to educate others about ocean acidification. I pledge to get involved in helping to reduce CO2 emissions and transition to clean energy sources. By uniting my voice with others, we have the power to change the world.”
About the Ocean Acidification Project
Students in Ms. Amy Moore’s Honors Chemistry and Ms. Tamryn Stark’s Oceanography classes will present final projects on Friday, May 19th in a Student STEM Showcase in the David W. Butler High School Media Center. Students will employ a variety of technology tools to display individual projects which demonstrate their focus of learning. The two Butler science teachers along with Media Coordinator Mrs. Anne Bucci have participated in a landmark year-long fellowship through the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) in a collaborative project entitled School Librarians Advancing STEM Learning (SLASL). As part of their work this group of educators has created a cross-curricular literacy and inquiry-based unit of study on the effects of climate change on ocean acidification with a focus on ocean chemistry. Their work will be published as an open educational resource for educators across the globe to implement in their classrooms. The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is also interested in publishing the unit.
