Technology at Butler High School
Butler High School operates on a network featuring Windows 7 machines along with over 100 iPads. There are over 2,000 devices which access the Internet available throughout the campus. The Microsoft Office Suite is version 2007. If you have questions about conversion, please contact the Media Center.
WiFi - Guest Network CMSGuest361
Students may access the Guest Network with teacher permission during the school day and without permission before and after school and during lunch. It is the student's responsibility to troubleshoot their own device. Students are encouraged not to leave personal electronic devices unattended.
Desktop Computers
All desktop computers have a USB Port(s) capable of accepting a USB Flash or Thumb Drive. If you are planning on incorporating technology into a project or presentation, it is important to test the equipment that you are going to use IN ADVANCE of it being due. Butler High School has several different types of computers; even if they look the same they all may not have the same programs or capabilities. Always plan to have a backup plan (For example: save your Senior Graduation Project on your home directory at school and keep it on your Flash Drive or upload to Google Docs).
Chromebooks
Presently there are over 1,600 Chromebooks housed in carts of 30. Most core academic classes offer Chromebook use daily or several times per week.
Laptops
In the fall of 2014 Butler received 180 HP 215 laptops for student use. The English Department has 45 laptops for teacher reservation for classroom use while the math, science and social studies departments have 30 laptops each. The foreign language department has 15 laptops. There are also 30 laptops available for individual student or whole classroom use in the Media Center. The HP 215 laptop is the standard for high schools across CMS.
iPads
Several teachers in the Science Department won iPads during the 2012 school year. There are seven sets of 10 iPads which may be used by science staff. There are also two mobile carts of 10 iPads each which may be reserved and checked out by classroom teachers from the Media Center. Students have access to a wide range of free apps and Web 2.0 technology.
HP Revolve laptop/tablets
In October 2013 all regular and EC classroom teachers received an HP Revolve to customize and use to extend teaching and learning in their individual classrooms.
