Butler Media Center wins Belk Innovation Grant!
In December 2014 the David W. Butler High School Media Center was awarded a $75,000 Belk Innovation Grant to transform the Media Center. Congratulations to Mrs. Anne Bucci, Butler Media Coordinator! Special thanks also goes to Mrs. Barbara Mager, Butler Theatre teacher, Katie Campbell, Butler Theatre student teacher, and the 18 students in the Theatre III/IV Honors course. These students played a pivotal role in winning this contest as they worked tirelessly to design, rehearse and act, and film and edit the five minute video. The students, Mr. LeGrand, Butler principal and Mrs. Bucci attended the 2014 Belk Bowl at Bank of America Stadium on December 30th. Mrs. Bucci received this award during an on-field presentation. Not Reading Is a Real Crime - Book Display for May 2014 and the most popular, eye-catching display of this school year. This display contained forensic crime scene and investigation books.
February Book Display - Blind Date with a Book - Spice Up Your Reading Life - Take a chance; you may find your perfect book. If things don't work out between you and your blind date, just return your book without any hurt feelings.
Students in Library Science selected fiction books and wrote personal ad type descriptions of the books without giving away critical information (title, author, main character, etc.) about the books they selected. Students then wrapped their books in brown paper to create book "blind dates" for the February display. Mrs. Bucci, Butler Media Coordinator says the books wrapped in brown paper help students to not "judge a book by it's cover" and the books in the February display have garnered much interest among students. "I will definitely do this book display again!"
